Adult Mental Health First Aid (AMHFA)
Nearly one in five people adults with a mental health issue. Chances are you or someone you care about are impacted. Have you wondered how to support someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue or is in emotional distress? Adult Mental Health First Aid is essential training for adults to build the knowledge, skills and confidence to safely apply first aid.
Adult Mental Health First Aid training teaches you the tools to aid persons experiencing mental health challenges to connect with supports. In this class, you will learn how to notice the signs and symptoms of mental health issues and how to approach and safely offer first aid when an adult shows early signs, worsening signs and/or is in crisis. Participants will receive local, state and national support resources and an extensive first aid manual including course information and more.
Adult Mental Health First Aid is the foundational curriculum that several other adult modules (Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults or Mental Health First Aid for Veterans and Families) are based upon so much of the content is identical, but includes additional information and scenarios specific to older adults or veterans. We encourage participants to take either Adult Mental Health First Aid or one of the more specific Adult Mental Health First Aid modules (Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults or Mental Health First Aid for Veterans and Families). Participating in more than one of the versions of Adult Mental Health First Aid in less than three years is not recommended given the repetitiveness of the curriculum as well as limited resources. This is not the case with Youth Mental Health First Aid as the content and information in that training is specific to adults who work and live with adolescents between 12 & 18 years of age.
