Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) (2 hours) is a brief, evidence-based suicide prevention training that teaches community members how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, ask directly about suicidal thoughts, persuade someone to seek help, and refer them to appropriate resources. Often described as the “CPR of suicide prevention,” QPR equips participants with simple, practical skills that can be used with friends, family members, coworkers, students, or community members.
Participants learn common risk factors and warning signs, how to have a direct and compassionate conversation about suicide, and how to connect someone to professional or community-based support. QPR is appropriate for a wide range of audiences, including youth-serving professionals, healthcare providers, faith leaders, employers, and community members. Additionally, participants will learn how to have respectful, effective conversations about reducing access to lethal means—particularly firearms and medications—during times of suicide risk. Research shows that creating time and distance between a person in crisis and lethal means can save lives.
