
The veteran death by suicide rate is over 50% higher than non-veteran US adults. 73% of veteran suicide deaths involved a firearm.
~ Get Trained to Save Lives ~
- Location: Virtual via zoom, a link to register for the Zoom meeting calendar invite will be sent in your Get Trained to Help booking confirmation email
- This free virtual 2.5 hour Veteran QPR course will include information about:
- Veterans and risk factors that may contribute to the higher rate of suicide
- How firearms add additional risk and steps we can take to lower that risk without infringing on firearm owner rights
- How firearm owners lead the way in firearm safety, and together we can make a difference in preventing suicide.
- The course will also provide QPR training, a nationally recognized suicide prevention practice. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer – 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.
- This FREE training is hosted by Washington County Veteran Services and is open to all community members.
Safety, please note:
Some of the content of the curriculum may activate troubling feelings and thoughts. The class is not a form of counseling, therapy, or support group. It is up to your discretion to decide whether attending QPR training is ok for you at this time.
- If you are a suicide loss or attempt survivor, we suggest delaying taking QPR for at least one year.
- If you have questions about whether this class is a good fit for you at this time, please email the coordinator (listed below) at least two days prior to the class.
