DESCRIPTION:Instructors:  James R. Dixon and Ian M.\n\n*** In addition to 
 the registration confirmation email\, a Pre-Work email will be sent a week
  prior to the training with additional details and instructions.***\n\nMen
 tal Health First Aid for Veterans\, Military Members and their Families is
  based upon the Adult Mental Health First Aid curriculum\; much of the con
 tent is identical\, but includes additional information and scenarios spec
 ific to Veterans and  Service Members:\n\n 	Military culture and its rele
 vance to the topic of mental health.\n 	Specific risk factors faced by man
 y service members and their families such as mental and physical trauma\, 
 stress\, separation\, etc.\n 	How to break down the stigma associated with
  substance use disorders and mental illnesses like anxiety\, depression\, 
 post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how to reach out to those who su
 ffer in silence or may be reluctant to seek help.\n 	Community resource in
 formation and support will be discussed.\n\nAdult Mental Health First Aid 
 teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use ch
 allenges in adults ages 18 and older\, how to offer and provide initial he
 lp\, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topic
 s covered include anxiety\, depression\, psychosis\, and addictions.\n\nTh
 e training covers:\n\n• Common signs and symptoms of mental health chall
 enges.\n\n• Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.\n\n
 • How to interact with a person in crisis.\n\n• How to connect a perso
 n with help.\n\n• Expanded content on trauma\, substance use and self-ca
 re.\n\n• Learn how to respond with the Mental Health First Aid Action P
 lan (ALGEE)\n\n&nbsp\;
